People’s Republic of China (PRC)1 has demonstrated its importance in global politics and economy. China – Latin America bilateral relations experienced a turning point after the Cold War. In a book entitled 1421 fte Year China Discovered America, the Min Emperor sent Zheng He for expedition to America in which the first contact of free trade between China -Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) was begun in 1421. China already launched global engagement and foreign policy which corresponded to politics of grand strategy, military power, culture, and commerce in multipolar system after the World Trade Organization’s accession in 2001. China has advanced its interests relating to international politics and economy in the Western Hemisphere through free trade (quest for sources and south – south relations), one China policy, military cooperation and challenge to U.S. status quo in the context of Sino – Latin America relations in the 21st Century.

In this triangular relations, President George W. Bush and Obama stressed on U.S. model which centered on democratic system and stable growth of economy. fte U.S. has long been the Latin American growth engine because the regional economic integration is becoming more important and affects the same national security.

In fact, China – Latin American relations has same values of economic cooperation and context of multilateral relations in the Western Hemisphere.

fte book3 will discuss about an overview of China, U.S., Latin American free trade relations in contemporary era, facts and trends of China, U.S., Latin American triangular relations from 1990 – 2010, description on how China’s rise with foreign direct investment and economic cooperation of Chinese state-owned enterprise were established, and how U.S.-Latin America relations was analyzed in the first decade of 21st century.
